News about the Ruth School


Dear Friends of Project Ruth,

Greetings from Bucharest! After a very HOT summer the autumn has arrived bringing cooler temperatures. This is a brief update before the beginning of the New School Year at Project Ruth.

It is impressive to see the structure for the new building being erected so quickly. There is only one last concrete slab to be poured. This will actually be the roof of the building. The plans are to finish the structure and the exterior walls this autumn.

Secondly, Streza Victoria (the music and arts teacher) has accepted to be the Headmistress of the Ruth School. Until August, 31 she was the Headmistress of the Baptist High school in Bucharest. Victoria brings a lot of experience in leading and administrating educational institutions.

teachersBecause the school now has expanded to grade seven several of the part time teachers will now be full time with the Ruth School. Another teacher Paraiac Raluca will come to teach grade four because Leana Liliana is moving to teach grades V-VII.

Atena Dobre is replacing Mona in the kitchen while Mona is on maternity leave (probably for 2 years if all goes according to plan). Atena is a qualified cook.

Nita Liliana will be back at Project Ruth as full time Secretary for the school and for the charity. Liliana has taught for the Ruth School a few years ago.

Mirela managed to finish 8 grades and she passed her Maturity exam (it is an exam taken at the end of 8 grades which allows you to go to High school). She is hoping to be accepted in an evening High school program which will allow her to also work.

We are very glad that the kitchen has a new cooker. Because is a catering standard cooker it was expensive ($3100 I think) but thanks to several donations this was possible. It looks really great and works very well.

The entire class from the Project Ruth Arad literacy centre passed the exam for grades I-IV. The exam was taken with teachers appointed by the school's inspectorate. The children can continue now education in any school.
